Meet the Team
We’re not your average architecture practice. We’re a small family business, and we’re just as happy in front of the drawing board as we are donning our hard hats and steel capped boots.
Meet Nick
Architect – Ba (Hons), MArch, PGDip, ARB, RIBA
Nick became a chartered architect in 2016, after gaining his qualifications from The University of Kent and Westminster University. During his career, he’s worked for property developers and contractors where his role has always surpassed that of a typical architect. Nick doesn’t just design; he’s worked closely with contractors on site and acted, not just as the project architect, but as the contractor, project manager and as the site foreman. It’s these roles that have given Nick an understanding of how construction works in reality, not just on drawings.
Nick founded Raw Architects in 2019, having seen the shortfall of traditional architects during his time as a contractor. His approach is simple and straightforward: he believes successful projects stem from a strong relationship between you, your architect, and your contractor. In his eyes, an architect’s job is only done when the final lick of paint is applied, not once the drawings are submitted.
When he’s not designing your homes, he’s busy designing and renovating his own home. He might be trained to do the drawings, but he loves doing the building work just as much. Much to his wife’s despair, he will only consider living in a house that he can completely redesign and remodel himself. They’re now onto their second renovation in Surrey, where they live with their two cats – the ever-mischievous Loki & Odin.
Meet Emily
Office and Marketing Manager
Emily is Raw’s office manager, responsible for organising the meetings, sorting the accounts, and generally keeping the company ticking along. By trade, she’s a writer, editor and content marketer, so it was only natural for her to manage the marketing side of the business too, from the social media to the website – she even wrote this sentence you’re reading.
When she’s not trying to organise Nick’s work diary, she’s busy organising his social diary… in her other role, as his wife. They’ve been working together in the same office for the last five years until they realised their different skill sets would complement each other quite nicely, and the rest is history. Despite living, working and renovating houses together, they’re still happily married.
Meet Hussein
Part II Architectural Assistant – BA (Hons), MArch
Hussein became a Part II Architectural Assistant in 2023 after completing his studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He started out at a company with an in-house architecture team, where he gained valuable experience on a range of projects
In 2024, Hussein joined Raw Architects and is now preparing to start his Part III studies to become a fully qualified architect. Hussein enjoys creating homes that feel both functional and inspiring. He believes architecture is at its best when it improves the way people live, and he continues to refine his skills with the aim of designing the homes of the future.
Outside of work, Hussein leads an active lifestyle. Weekends are often filled with volleyball and football, alongside cycling and travelling whenever he can. He’s also an avid chess player and board game enthusiast. When not on the move, Hussein is happiest in nature. For him, hiking and the outdoors is the best way to recharge after a busy week drawing up your new home.
Meet Loki & Odin
Chief Distraction Officers (CDOs)
Loki & Odin ensure that all members of the Raw Architects team are suitably distracted every day.
